Combustion Technician and Combustion Specialist Certification License Program:

Combustion Specialist License Certificate

Combustion burner installers and service technicians license program for combustion analysis, set-up, servicing and tune-ups for small furnaces to industrial combustion furnaces should have a combustion technician certificate license for the boiler or furnace for the particular fuel.

The combustion certificate license program has three-levels of competency. They are based on size of the burner, fuel train, and furnace and types of fuels from these categories: 1) Gaseous, 2) Liquid, and 3) Solid. The three-levels of competency are as follows:

Combustion Specialist - II: Natural Gas, Heating Oils, Wood Product Biomass and Coal for Boiler Furnaces of Unlimited Size

Combustion Specialist - I: Natural Gas and Heating Oils for Boiler Furnaces of Unlimited Size

Combustion Technician: Natural Gas, Propane and Heating Oils on Boiler Furnaces of 1.7 MMBtu/hr or less (approximately 50-BHP or less).

Combustion Specialist - III license certificate is in development for HRSG Duct Panel Burners, Refuse Burners, Fluidized Beds, and Hazardous Waste Combustors. Contributors are welcome by contacting admin@nasoe.org

The combustion certificate licenses qualification can be found below with information on number of questions on the competency examination and their topics as well as reference materials to study from.

Combustion Specialist - IICombustion Specialist for Soild Fuels - Coal and Wood Product Biomass License Certificate NASOE

A Combustion Specialist - II designation is intended for combustion and burner trains on large furnaces on boilers of greater than 50-BHP and the Specialist will have the additional abilities of solid fuels of coal and wood product biomass above that of a Combustion Specialist - I.

The qualifications to sit (write) for the Combustion Specialist - II exam is the candidate must have a Combustion - I certificate license with 3-months of full-time combustion and burner experience, which is listed under Combustion Specialist - I, in using Coal or Wood Biomass.
